Nivalis Nights Development Timeline: Five Years to Release

FAQ

Why was Nivalis renamed to Nivalis Nights?
A legal dispute over the Nivalis name began in October 2025 and was resolved in mid-2026. The outcome required a new title; ION LANDS stressed it is otherwise the exact same game.
Was the game delayed a lot?
Yes. Announced years before its original 2025 target, it slipped repeatedly before the trademark dispute added months of near-silence. The September 29, 2026 date announced in June 2026 is the first that has held.

Oct 2, 2026 Update #2 — one day later: the promised light culling system ships as a new “Lighting Details” graphics slider, staff get a published task-priority order, older ingredients are used first in mealmaking, and two new known issues are documented (fast-travel performance, staff getting stuck)

The rename, in the studio’s own words

The June 30, 2026 announcement was unusually candid. Creative director Marko Dieckmann: “As an independent studio, developing this game meant overcoming hurdles we’ve never faced before.” Since the previous October, the team had been “quietly sorting out a legal matter at ION LANDS with a third party” — community discussion settled on a trademark conflict over the Nivalis name as a game title (the in-game city keeps the name).

The rename that followed came with an explicit promise: “It is the exact same game you have been waiting for, just with a fresh new title and logo.”

What the quiet months looked like

The monthly devlogs that started in October 2024 ran like clockwork — then stopped after November 2025 and did not resume until a community Q&A in March 2026. In hindsight those silent months were the dispute, not trouble with the game itself. Neil Ralley, president of publisher 505 Games, matched the studio’s relief at the finish line: “We can’t wait to finally welcome players to the city of Nivalis and discover its secrets.”

Why the story matters for players

Two practical takeaways. First, the September 29, 2026 date held firm from June all the way to launch — every announcement reinforced it, unlike the 2025 window. Second, the studio’s communication style (monthly blogs, no fake hype) is a decent trust signal for post-launch support of everything in the feature overview. The September 11 brochure opened a final pre-launch information series, on September 17 the studio confirmed the game had passed one million wishlists on Steam, and on September 24 the series delivered its punchline: the launch price ($24.99 with a 10% launch discount), the final system requirements, and the exact unlock time. On September 29 the run ended where it promised — the game launched on Steam, confirmed by the studio’s “out now” announcement. Post-launch support kept the same cadence: Update #1 arrived on October 1 with the first round of fixes, Update #2 delivered the promised lighting-performance work one day later, and Update #3 followed on October 5 with the crowd-simulation performance work and the first batch of community suggestions. Our release date page has the buying details, every official video from the marketing run is embedded on the trailers page, and the Cloudpunk connection page covers the studio’s first game in this universe.
